Our new range of nylon frame fixings are now available.

Here are some frequently asked questions we've answered for you:

  • What is a nylon frame fixing?

  • Are they the same as a hammer-in fixing?

  • Are Celo nylon frame fixings non-flammable?

  • Can nylon frame fixings be used in a rainscreen application?

  • How does the Celo range compare to other brands in the market?

What is a nylon frame fixing?

A nylon frame fixing is an expanding friction anchor designed to fasten a range of materials to concrete and masonry. One of the main advantages of this type of fastener is that it can be used in light and medium-weight concrete blocks and hollow bricks, as well as concrete.

It's a cost-effective solution that can be used in a broad range of applications.

Consisting of a nylon plug with a metal fixing element, these anchors are available with different head styles (hex, countersunk, pan, etc), and in different material grades (e.g. zinc-plated, and varying grades of stainless steel).

Once a pilot hole has been drilled into the substrate, the two-piece anchor is installed - the metal element of the fixing expands the nylon plug, creating friction and securing the fixture back to the substrate.

Are they the same as a hammer-in fixing?

A nylon frame fixing is not to be confused with a hammer-in fixing. Although they look similar, they play different roles within a building substrate.

A hammer-in fixing is generally used for non-structural applications, as they don't generally have ETA/CE approval.

Are the Celo nylon frame fixings non-flammable?

Nylon, as a material, is not flammable so it will not start a fire. However, it will melt when exposed to fire or extremely high temperatures.

Celo frame fixings are R90 rated, which means that they are classified as fire resistant - they can be used to meet a 90 minute fire specification in line with the data detailed in the ETA.

Can I use a nylon frame fixing in a rainscreen?

Nylon frame fixings are commonly used within rainscreen and façade applications, however, it's the designer's responsibility to ensure they comply with the project specification.

How does the Celo range compare to other brands in the market?

As with substrate anchors, there is a huge choice in the market, and most options nowadays are certified and approved for use within safety-critical applications.

Our range of nylon frame anchors from Celo are ETA approved and CE marked, which gives them the same approvals as the majority of alternatives.

So what sets them apart?

Nylon frame fixings are a two-part anchor - the nylon frame plug, and the metal (A4 or zinc-plated) fixing element. The Celo MFR range of nylon anchors come pre-assembled, so saves time on-site having to assemble the plug and fixing, ultimately saving money - it's one piece, ready to be installed.

Another feature of the Celo MFR range of nylon anchors is that the plug is available with a flat rim of nylon to act as a barrier between metal elements of the application - e.g. the screw and the material being fixed to the substrate.

For post-installation, the head of the anchor includes standard size markings to ensure easy identification if required.

With an effective hammer-in barrier to prevent damage to the anchor, and 2 embedment depths at 50mm and 70mm, the Celo MFR range is available in a wide range of sizes and in 2 different head styles (hex or countersunk), to suit most applications.

Alongside all this, you can count on the same Fixfast grade service to back you up throughout the entirety of your project.
