What is CCPI?
"The Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI) will help organisations drive higher standards in the presentation of construction product information, prioritising building safety. Whether written in a brochure, a presentation, on a website or social media, the CCPI will help to provide greater confidence for users of product information when making decisions about specifying or installing their verified products" - CCPI.
CCPI is fast becoming the industry standard for verification of product information offered by manufacturers.
Set up as a response to the Hackitt review after the Grenfell Tower tragedy, the CCPI is there to verify that the claims manufacturers make as to their construction products are accurate and not misleading.
Communication of product data and information can be vague or misinterpreted, so CCPI verification ensures that the product information offered to customers by product manufacturers is clear and correct in the language used, providing confidence to customers that the claims made are unambiguous, and an accurate reflection of the product capabilities or features.
The 5 'acid tests' of CCPI are that the product marketing material must be:
Clear
Accurate
Up-to-date
Accessible
Unambiguous
It's also not just about product marketing material - with a clear focus on culture, leadership, and ethics, CCPI ensures member companies have a culture which encourages healthy challenge raising within their organisation, and where staff are rewarded for doing the 'right thing'.
Why does it matter?
After the Grenfell Tower tragedy, Dame Judith Hackitt's review brought out the importance of marketing communications created and promoted by construction product manufacturers.
What went wrong cannot be allowed to happen again - and the creation of the CCPI is one step on this journey of enabling visibility and accountability of the whole construction process, from design to final installation, and beyond.
Why have Fixfast gained CCPI certification?
CCPI verification is relatively new within the construction industry - 2023 saw the first product sets being verified by CCPI. We're pleased to announce that Fixfast gained verification on 3 product ranges during late 2023:
DrillFast self-drilling fasteners
MatchFast self-drilling fasteners
TapFast self-tapping fasteners
Early 2024, we received further verification on 2 product ranges:
FarBo rainwater outlets
SureFast mechanical fastening system
Fasteners are a crucial part of the overall construction process, and we're committed to meeting and upholding industry standards to ensure that the components used are safe and suited to the overall lifetime of the building.
We haven't just reacted to CCPI verification though - we feel it's important to be seen as a leader within the industry when it comes to product compliance. That's why we're dedicated to clear, accurate, up-to-date, accessible and unambiguous verified product information across our core product ranges.
What's next for the future?
It doesn't just stop at 5 verified product ranges though - we're currently in the process of gaining verification for further product sets within our range.
Going forward we'll be working to maintain our product verification status, to ensure that our products comply with the relevant CCPI standards to ensure clarity and consistency - ultimately, ensuring peace of mind and full traceability of the construction process.
